DONOR RECOGNITION SOCIETIES


Philanthropic Gifts save Lighthouses!. Charitable gifts play a critical role in making it possible to protect, preserve and restore Florida’s remaining 29 historic lighthouses.  A 2002 study done by the State of Florida estimates that it will take over $20 million dollars to preserve Florida's 29 remaining historic lighthouse towers.  

FLA recognizes donors for annual gifts made during an 18 month period (August - December next year)

LUMEN SOCIETY  ~ recognizes donors who make gifts of $250 or more
A gift of $250 can pay for two classrooms from transportation and program costs for a local school to have a field trip to a lighthouse and learn about Florida maritime history and the importance of preservation

BEACON SOCIETY ~ recognizes donors who make gifts of $500 or more
A gift of $500 can rebuild five historic iron steps in a lighthouse tower.
During the transition year of 2012 FLA 365 Club members who made a gift in 2011 will be recognized as Beacon Society Members 

PRISM SOCIETY ~ recognizes donors who make gifts of $1,000 or more
A gift of $1,000 will ~
  • purchase enough specialized marine paint to allow a volunteer to completely paint an historic building
  • provide a day of ground penetrating radar to aid archaeologists in their discovery of artifacts located on lighthouse grounds.

FRESNEL SOCIETY  ~ recognizes donors who make gifts of $5,000 or more
A gift of $5,000 can help a volunteer preservationist strip and repaint a historic building.


TOWER SOCIETY ~ recognizes donors who make gifts of $10,000 or more
A gift of $10,000 or more will 
  • enable a trained volunteer to completely restore an antique lens system
  • provide a roof for an historic out building such as an oil house, or wash room.
FLA recognizes donors who include a charitable gift
to FLA restoration efforts in their estate plan 

LIGHT KEEPERS LEGACY SOCIETY ~ recognizes donors who include a gift in their estate plan
  • An estate gift of $100,000 can completely restore all the historic ironwork in a brick lighthouse tower or fund a years worth of archaeological or historic research by a graduate student team. 
  • A gift of $1,000,000 will restore a lighthouse because that is what it costs to completely restore one of the towers -- and that restoration has to be done every ten years
FLA recognizes donors who make cumulative gifts of $25,000
 or more, in perpetuity

PHAROS SOCIETY COMMEMORATIVE ROLL OF HONOR ~ recognizes donors who's cumulative gifts total $25,000 or more
  • $25,000 can rescue and completely restore an out building on an historic lighthouse grounds
  • $50,000 can completely restore the inside iron work of an historic lantern room or can restore a 150 year old Fresnel lens

DONOR RECOGNITION EVENTS

Donors have a significant impact on lighthouse restoration and preservation efforts.  In recognition FLA Philanthropists are invited to participate in special educational events and tours at the membership meetings.
